Steroid hormone receptors are a group of intracellular receptors that function as transcription factors and play important roles in the regulation of various physiological processes, including development, differentiation, and metabolism. They are activated by ligands such as steroid hormones, which include sex hormones (estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone), glucocorticoids, mineralocorticoids, and vitamin D3. There are two types of steroid hormone receptors: type I and type II.
