Claudins

Claudins are a family of integral membrane proteins that are the major structural and functional components of tight junctions, which are specialized cell-cell contacts that regulate the paracellular transport of ions and solutes across epithelial and endothelial cell layers. Claudins are involved in many physiological processes, including the maintenance of tissue barriers, the regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation, and the modulation of immune responses.
