Transmembrane

"Transmembrane protein" is a protein that spans the whole biological membrane one or more times. Transmembrane proteins coagulate and precipitate in water. Most transmembrane proteins can be extracted with detergents or non-polar solvents, and a few beta-folded tubular proteins can also be extracted with some denaturants.
