P16INK4a (p16) is a cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor, which blocks the activation of E2F transcription factor by inhibiting CDK4/6 and negatively regulates the proliferation of normal cells. CDKN2A/p16INK4a affects tissue homeostasis and maintains the balance between tumor inhibition and aging.
