Title: 5'-Hydroxyisoavrainvilleol, a new diphenylmethane derivative from the tropical green alga Avrainvillea nigricans.

Abstract: A new brominated diphenylmethane, 5'-hydroxyisoavrainvilleol, was isolated from the tropical green macrophyte, Avrainvillea nigricans, using conventional chromatographic techniques. The structure is based on a combination of spectrochemical arguments, including a detailed analysis of the long range 1H-13C coupling constants. The natural product shows gram-positive antimicrobial activity.
