(-)-Hydroxycitric acid lactone (Garcinia lactone) is an anti-obesity agent and a popular weight loss food supplement. (-)-Hydroxycitric acid lactone is a potent inhibitor of ATP-citrate lyase. (-)-Hydroxycitric acid lactone catalyzes the extramitochondrial cleavage of citrate to oxaloacetate and acetyl-CoA, limits the availability of acetyl-CoA units required for fatty acid synthesis.

In Vivo

(-)-Hydroxycitric acid lactone (1000-3000mg/kg; fed for a period of 4 weeks) significantly decreases body weight at 2000 and 3000 mg/kg in chicken. MCE has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only. Animal Model: 1-day-old male broiler chickensDosage: 1000, 2000, 3000 mg/kg Administration: Fed for a period of 4 weeks Result: Body weight and average daily gain (ADG) in the 2000 mg/kg and 3000 mg/kg were significantly lower.
