N-Desmethyl Clozapine-d8 (norclozapine) is a deuterium-labeled, major metabolite of Clozapine which is reported to act as a highly potent and selective 5-HT|2c|serotonin receptor antagonist. In studies with|in vitro|microsomal preparations of human liver, Clozapine was noted to metabolize to N-Desmethyl Clozapine and Clozapine N-oxide . As a method of detection, reversed-phase HPLC has been reported as an identification method for Clozapine and its two major metabolites. Additional HPLC studies have reported the use of deuterium-labeled compounds in detecting Clozapine and metabolites such as N-Desmethyl Clozapine.
