Sodium perchlorate, monohydrate is a chaotropic agent used in standard DNA extraction and hybridization reactions in molecular biology. It is widely utilized as a deproteinization agent during nucleic acid synthesis. A bit of modern commercial explosives products may contain sodium perchlorate, ammonium perchlorate, or potassium perchlorate as a chemical sensitizing agent.
