It is chemotactic and chemokinetic for human neutrophils, the most abundant white blood cells of the mammalian immune system. It has been shown to elevate cytosolic Ca|2+|, inducing protein kinase C mobilization and thus influencing neutrophil function. It has been observed to stimulate the release of lysozymes from polymorphonuclear leukocytes. It has also been observed to stimulate the release of beta-N-acetylglucosaminidase from polymorphonuclear leukocytes.
